When I was a sophomore at Bryan College, the 3+2 program was developed with Richmont.  This basically means that a student will spend three years as an undergraduate at Bryan and then two years as a master’s student at Richmont. I’m thrilled that in five years I can earn a B.A. in Psychology from Bryan and an M.A. in Professional Counseling from Richmont. At first I was not sure I wanted to go through this program, but after touring Richmont’s, talking to students, and spending time in prayer, I realized what an incredible opportunity I had. I fell in love with the community and the overall atmosphere at Richmont. I was also enticed by the fact that Richmont students have continued to score extremely well on the National Counselor Examination. Ultimately, I just felt at peace with becoming part of the 3-2 program and attending Richmont.

Deciding to be a counselor was a natural decision for me. I have always loved people, and I knew that I wanted a career where I was helping to make a difference in someone’s life. I also knew that I needed a job where I interact with people because a cubicle setting would not be right for me. Through my studies at Bryan College, conversations with individuals in the counseling field, and observations on what a positive influence a counselor can have on a person’s life, I realized that counseling is definitely my calling.

Now that I’m at Richmont I am pursuing my master’s in Professional Counseling with a specialization in trauma. The community here is incredible and the professors are personal and yet so professional. I am constantly amazed at how wise and insightful they are. Their wisdom comes not only through years of academic work, but also through their experiences in the counseling field. I love the fact that each professor is still an active counselor.

As I think toward the future I want to one day pursue a doctorate degree in either counseling supervision or clinical psychology. I believe that Richmont will more than adequately prepare me in my pursuit of that goal. I am passionate about counseling individuals who have suffered through trauma at some point in their lives so I am excited to apply the knowledge I gain from my specialization into that setting. I already feel confident that after I graduate Richmont, I will have a solid education to become a professional counselor.
